Answer: My favourite food is pizza.

How to Write About Your Favourite Food in English
In this lesson, you will learn how to write a short paragraph about your favourite food. This is a very common writing task in English. You might write about food in a school exercise, on a simple form, or in a short message to a friend. Writing about food helps you practise everyday vocabulary and simple sentence structures.
In this lesson, you will learn how to:
- Write simple sentences about food using Subject + Verb + Object
- Use basic connectors: and, but, because, so
- Use capital letters and full stops correctly
- Describe what food looks like, tastes like, and when you eat it
Essential Writing Rules and Sentence Structure
Rule 1: Word Order — Subject + Verb + Object
In English, sentences follow a simple pattern. We call this Subject + Verb + Object (SVO). Look at the examples below:
| Subject | Verb | Object / Information | Full Sentence |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | love | pizza | I love pizza. |
| Pizza | is | my favourite food | Pizza is my favourite food. |
| I | eat | pizza on Fridays | I eat pizza on Fridays. |
| It | tastes | delicious | It tastes delicious. |
Rule 2: Capital Letters
Always use a capital letter for:
- The word I — for example: I like rice.
- The first word of every sentence — for example: Pizza is delicious.
- Names of people and places — for example: Maria, Italy, London
- Days of the week — for example: Monday, Friday, Sunday
- Months of the year — for example: January, August
Rule 3: Full Stops and Commas
Always put a full stop (.) at the end of every sentence.
Use a comma (,) when you list three or more things:
- I like pizza, pasta, and rice.
- It is hot, sweet, and delicious.
Rule 4: Short, Clear Sentences
At A1 level, write short sentences. Each sentence should have 5 to 9 words. Do not try to write very long sentences. Short sentences are clear and easy to read.
- ✅ I like pizza. It is very tasty.
- ❌ I like pizza because it is very tasty and I eat it every Friday with my family and it is my favourite.
Useful Linking Words (Connectors)
Connectors join two sentences or two ideas together. They make your writing more interesting. At A1 level, use these four basic connectors:
| Connector | Function / Use | Example Sentence |
|---|---|---|
| and | Adds two ideas together | I like pizza and I like pasta. |
| but | Shows a contrast or difference | I like pizza but I do not like spicy food. |
| because | Gives a reason | I love sushi because it is fresh and delicious. |
| so | Shows a result | Pizza is my favourite food, so I eat it every week. |
