Object Pronouns Rules

Object pronouns are those pronouns that receive the action in a sentence. They are me, you, him, her, us, them, and whom.

We use the object pronouns in most situations when the pronoun is not the subject of a verb.

  • Following basic pronouns take on different forms when they are used as object pronoun rather than a subject pronoun.
  • I become me
  • You remain you(this rule is applied for singular and plural use)
  • He becomes him
  • She becomes her
  • It remains It
  • We/Our become us
  • They become them
  • Who becomes whom
  • Use of Object Pronoun:
  • We use the object pronoun as the object of the verb. It is written after the verb.

For Example:

She killed him.

In this sentence “she” is the subject pronoun that is performing the action and “him” is receiving the action performed by she. Therefore, it is an object pronoun.

  • We use object pronoun after a preposition

For Example:

Are you coming with us?

In this sentence “with” is preposition and “us” is used as object pronoun because it is receiving the action and it is not subject of the verb “coming”.
