Distributive Half/All Rules
Distributive refer to persons and things one at a time.
“All” and “half” are distributive determiners. They can be used with countable nouns and uncountable nouns. Sometimes, they are used before articles or the word “of”. “Of” is always used when preceding plural pronouns.
Use of “All”
1)”All” is used when we refer to the whole group. It is used before uncountable nouns and plural countable nouns.
For Example:
All the players did their best. (Countable noun)
All cheese contains protein. (Uncountable noun)
2) We can use “all” alone as a pronoun informal situations.
For Example, All were happy with the outcome.
In this sentence “all” is used as a pronoun.
Use of “Half”
“Half” is used to talk about a whole group divided into two. It can be used before singular or plural nouns.
For Example:
I have completed half of my work. (Singular noun)
Half of the candies are finished. (Plural noun)
